Brief Chronology of Mining Developments

1864 May 4th Isaac Waterman, Thomas Beaver and David Morgan leased a large tract of land in lower Kingston from the Myers Estate, so they could produce coal to supply their ironworks in Danville
1864 - - Sinking of the No. 1 Shaft began and a lateral railroad was constructed to connect with the Lackawanna and Bloomsburg Railroad
1872 - - Construction of the No. 2 breaker and shaft commenced; the shaft was down about 50 ft by the end of the year
1873 - - The shaft and breaker were completed in the latter part of 1873 and coal shipments started
1877 Jun 25th The old Waterman and Beaver partnership was superseded by the formation of the Kingston Coal Company Limited
1891 - - During the fire in breakers No. 1 and 4, there were at least 50 men working in No. 1 shaft, but volunteers went down to warn them and they escaped through the No. 2 shaft
